[Get Started](https://app.spot.insure/signup?coverage=medical-malpractice&industry=healthcare&icp=healthcare). Spot is not an insurance carrier and takes no commissions on premiums; you can keep your broker or switch.

## How Spot helps

1. **Tell us what your business does.** Your Spot team records the work each entity does, where it happens, who handles patient information and what property or products are involved, so the quote fits the business you’re building.
2. **Check contract requirements against your policies.** When a customer or landlord asks for specific limits or a certificate, Spot compares the named entity, activities, limits and dates with your policies and shows which form supports each requirement.
3. **Compare quotes on more than price.** When brokers return proposals, Spot lines up named insureds, covered activities, retentions, exclusions and cyber sublimits across the proposals.
4. **Ask about a policy any time.** Ask the Spot agent whether a clinician is named or what your cyber policy says about vendor-held data, and see the wording behind the answer.

## Who we help

- **Care providers.** Clinicians treating patients need malpractice coverage that names the right people, specialties and locations.
- **Health data and software companies.** A customer’s business associate agreement can make you responsible for protected health information.
- **Labs and testing businesses.** Specimens, lab equipment and the results you report raise property, liability and professional questions that need separate answers.
- **Health product companies.** Devices, kits and therapies raise product questions that a clinic’s policy doesn’t answer.

## Coverage

- [General liability](https://spot.insure/insurance/general-liability)
- [Commercial property](https://spot.insure/insurance/commercial-property)
- [Workers’ compensation](https://spot.insure/insurance/workers-compensation)

## When to get this coverage

- **You’re hiring your first clinicians.** Malpractice coverage should name the clinicians, specialties, procedures and entities. Check claims-made dates and any reporting extension.
- **A customer sent a business associate agreement.** Compare its response duties with your cyber terms for incident costs, patient claims and vendor-held data.
- **You’re signing a clinic or lab lease.** The lease can set liability and property requirements. List locations, equipment, samples and property owned by others.
- **You’re adding a product to a service business.** List the service and the product separately so clinical work and product allegations aren’t forced under one limit.
- **You’re placing staff at a lab or clinic in another state.** Workers’ compensation rules depend on the state. Give the broker locations, payroll and duties for each.

## Common questions

Also known as healthcare company insurance, healthcare business insurance, health care company insurance and healthcare startup insurance.

### Is healthcare business insurance the same as health insurance?

No. Health insurance pays for people’s medical care. Healthcare business insurance protects your company: malpractice for the care you provide, cyber for health data, general liability, property and workers’ compensation. Spot compares those against what your company does.

### Is every healthcare company a HIPAA covered entity?

No. A provider is a covered entity when it conducts specified standard electronic transactions. Others may be business associates because of their work with protected health information.

### Does general liability cover a clinical error?

No. General liability addresses certain third-party injury and property damage. A clinical error is a malpractice question, and employee injuries and vehicles need their own review too.

### Will our property or liability policy cover a data breach?

Usually not. Most commercial property and general liability policies don’t cover cyber risks, which is why Spot reviews cyber proposals separately.

### What do we send for a healthcare quote?

Send a short inventory of your entities, services, products, sites, employees, patient-data flows and equipment, plus any upcoming lease or customer requirements. That inventory becomes the basis of your submission.

### Can we keep our healthcare broker?

If you want to. Your broker can keep placing your program while Spot works alongside them, and Spot takes no commissions on premiums. If your broker doesn’t place malpractice or cyber for the work you do, you can switch to one who does.
