[Get Started](https://app.spot.insure/signup?coverage=cyber&industry=education&icp=education). Spot is not an insurance carrier and takes no commissions on premiums; you can keep your broker or switch.

## How Spot helps

1. **Tell us who runs each school and service.** Your Spot team records which entity operates each school, campus, software service or program, who owns the customer relationship and who employs the people doing the work.
2. **Compare cyber quotes on student data.** We map what your service collects, who can access it, which vendors store it and what the customer agreement says about use, return and deletion, then compare cyber proposals against it.
3. **Check what districts and schools ask for.** When a district or school contract requests insurance evidence or specific wording, Spot compares it with your policies and endorsements and flags any part they don’t meet.
4. **Get certificates for events and partners.** When a venue, field trip host or school partner asks for proof of insurance, post the request in Slack with the date and the wording they need. Your Spot team checks it against your policies and works with your broker on the certificate.

## Who we help

- **Schools and campus operators.** Students, families and visitors come onto your premises, and your staff run events, labs and transport.
- **Edtech vendors.** Schools share education records with you and rely on your platform to teach, assess or run operations.
- **Tutoring and learning centers.** You lease sites, employ instructors and serve students in person.
- **Curriculum and consulting providers.** Customers make education or operating decisions based on your instruction, assessments or advice.

## When to get this coverage

- **A school wants to share education records with you.** Under FERPA’s school-official exception, your service and the school’s control over the records matter. Map the data flow before your cyber review.
- **You’re signing a district contract.** Compare its insurance and data terms with your proposed forms and endorsements before you sign.
- **You’re opening a new site or campus.** Schedule the building interest, equipment and contents, and other parties’ property at each location.
- **You’re hiring instructors or remote staff.** Give the broker every work state and duty, and check how remote staff and lab roles are classified.
- **Staff will drive students or equipment.** List owned, rented and personal vehicles and how they’re used. A general liability limit won’t answer the vehicle question.

## Common questions

Also known as school insurance, private school insurance, edtech insurance, education technology insurance, education company insurance and tutoring company insurance.

### What does edtech insurance usually include?

Cyber for the student data you hold comes first, with professional liability or tech E&O for the service schools rely on, plus general liability and workers’ compensation. A school adds property and auto. Spot maps which ones you need.

### Does FERPA tell us which insurance to buy?

No. FERPA guidance explains when a school may share education records with an outside provider and on what conditions. It doesn’t define what a policy covers.

### What should an edtech vendor share before a cyber quote?

Share what the service collects, where it’s stored, who can access it, which vendors handle it and the customer’s limits on its use. Your Spot team turns that into the submission.

### Is professional liability the same as tech E&O for an edtech company?

Not necessarily. If you host software or run integrations, ask which services the proposed form treats as professional services. Spot compares the definitions directly.

### We run a school and a software product. Do we need separate policies?

Each activity needs to be described, and some may need their own policy. We map entities and services first, then ask brokers how each proposal handles them.

### Our broker insures the school. Can they cover the software side too?

Ask them first. Spot works alongside your broker on both parts of the business and takes no commissions on premiums. Software risks are a different market from school property, and if theirs doesn’t extend that far, you can switch.
