# Spot for Drone Companies

Get quotes from drone insurance providers with Spot.

We get quotes for the missions you fly or the aircraft and software you build, then help you compare them before the next contract.

- Aviation exclusions found before a customer flight
- Aircraft, payloads and batteries scheduled by owner
- Keep your broker or switch, with no commissions on premiums

[Get Started](https://app.spot.insure/signup?coverage=general-liability&industry=drones&icp=startups). Spot is not an insurance carrier and takes no commissions on premiums; you can keep your broker or switch.

## How Spot helps

1. **Tell us your role in each flight.** Your Spot team records whether you operate, manufacture, supply the payload or provide the software for each mission, plus your aircraft, pilots, locations and customer property.
2. **Compare quotes on crashes, defects and errors.** Brokers take your submission to aviation and general markets with our help, and Spot asks how every proposal handles a flight injury, a product defect, a service error and damage to an aircraft or payload.
3. **Check your policy before new missions.** Before a new payload or flights over people, Spot checks whether the waiver conditions and operations you rely on appear in your policy terms, and flags any aviation exclusion.
4. **Get a certificate for the site owner.** When a property owner or customer asks for a certificate before you fly, send the request in Slack with the flight date and site. Your Spot team works with your broker to get it issued.

## Who we help

- **Drone service operators.** You fly commercial missions over customer sites, and general liability lists aircraft among its major exclusions.
- **Aircraft and payload makers.** You make, modify or integrate airframes, controllers or payloads that customers fly.
- **Flight software and analytics teams.** Customers rely on your route planning, remote piloting or data products to run their operations.
- **Fleets scaling up missions.** Flights over people, beyond visual line of sight or with multiple aircraft change what you need to describe.

## When to get this coverage

- **Your first paid mission is booked.** Give the broker the aircraft, pilot, operating area, people nearby, payload and customer property, and ask for the actual aviation terms.
- **You’re adding flights over people.** Establish the operating basis first. A waiver authorizes the operation; only the policy decides whether a loss is covered.
- **Aircraft travel to job sites.** List aircraft, payloads, batteries and ground stations by owner and value, and check terms during storage, transit, assembly and flight.
- **You’re launching mission software.** If customers rely on your planning or analytics, ask whether professional services wording addresses an error alongside a flight incident.
- **Your fleet depends on cloud command links.** Map mission data, remote links and vendors, then compare cyber terms for incident response and third-party claims.

## Common questions

Also known as drone insurance, commercial drone insurance, drone company insurance, drone business insurance, drone operator insurance, drone manufacturer insurance, UAV insurance and UAS insurance.

### Is commercial drone insurance one policy?

Usually not. Operators often need aviation liability and hull cover for the aircraft, while makers and software teams lean on product liability and tech E&O, and general liability can exclude aircraft. Spot sorts out which applies to your role.

### If we comply with FAA small drone rules, are we insured?

No. FAA rules and waivers decide whether you may fly; the policy wording decides whether a loss is covered.

### Does general liability cover a drone accident?

Don’t count on it. Aircraft is a major general liability exclusion, so Spot asks brokers for wording that addresses your aircraft and missions directly.

### Does cyber insurance cover a crash caused by a lost link?

Cyber terms are customized and may address incident costs or third-party claims, but that doesn’t establish coverage for a flight loss. We ask each broker how their proposal treats it.

### Which flight details should a drone operator send for quotes?

Send mission profiles, aircraft specifications, pilots, locations, customer property and any waiver conditions. We combine them into a single submission for brokers.

### Can we keep working with our aviation broker?

Yes. Spot works alongside your aviation broker and takes no commissions on premiums. If they can’t place a new mission type, Spot can help you bring in another broker.
