[Get Started](https://app.spot.insure/signup?coverage=product-liability&industry=consumer&icp=retail). Spot is not an insurance carrier and takes no commissions on premiums; you can keep your broker or switch.

## How Spot helps

1. **List what you sell and where it’s stored.** Your Spot team builds the submission from your product families, suppliers, sales territories, locations and peak inventory, including stock held at a contract manufacturer, fulfillment center or pop-up.
2. **Check a retailer’s terms against your policy.** Send the vendor agreement or lease. Spot compares its required limits and additional insured wording with your coverage and tells you what has to change before you sign.
3. **See how each quote covers your stock.** Once your broker has taken the submission to market, Spot lays out how each proposal treats your products, stock at other sites, goods in transit and customer data, right next to the premium.
4. **Tell us when your business changes.** A new product, supplier, state or delivery service can change the questions a quote has to answer. Tell your Spot team in Slack and we bring the change to your broker.

## Who we help

- **Direct-to-consumer brands.** You sell online, ship from a fulfillment center and hold customer accounts and payment details, so product liability, stock in transit and cyber all come up at once.
- **Brands entering retail.** A retailer’s vendor agreement sets product liability limits and asks to be named on your policy before your first purchase order ships.
- **Importers and distributors.** Products you bring in or resell can still lead to an injury claim against you, and insurers want to know your role for each product family.
- **Shops, studios and showrooms.** Customers walk through your door, your lease has an insurance clause, and your stock and fixtures sit at that address.

## Coverage

- [General liability](https://spot.insure/insurance/general-liability)
- [Commercial property](https://spot.insure/insurance/commercial-property)
- [Tools, equipment and inland marine](https://spot.insure/insurance/inland-marine)
- [Workers’ compensation](https://spot.insure/insurance/workers-compensation)
- [Cyber liability](https://spot.insure/insurance/cyber)

## When to get this coverage

- **You’re adding a new range.** Add the product family, components and sales territories to the submission so product liability names what you actually sell.
- **A retailer sends a vendor agreement.** Check the requested limits and endorsement wording against your policy before you promise a certificate.
- **You’re signing a lease for a shop or studio.** The landlord’s clause, the address and your contents value all need to match what you buy.
- **Inventory is piling up ahead of a busy season.** Peak stock at your own site and at third-party warehouses should appear in the property schedule at accurate values.
- **Your first warehouse or shop staff are starting.** Workers’ compensation depends on who employs each person and the states they work in, so line those up before you ask for quotes.

## Common questions

Also known as consumer brand insurance, consumer products insurance, consumer goods insurance, CPG insurance, DTC brand insurance and direct-to-consumer brand insurance.

### What insurance does a CPG or DTC brand need?

Product liability usually comes first, since retailers and marketplaces ask for it. General liability, property and inland marine for stock, workers’ compensation and cyber follow. Spot builds them from one product and channel list.

### Does a business owner’s policy cover everything a consumer brand needs?

No. It typically packages property, business interruption and liability, and typically leaves out commercial auto and workers’ compensation. Spot checks what each package actually includes for your products and locations.

### Will product liability pay for a recall?

Don’t assume it will. Product liability wording addresses injury and property damage, and recall costs are a separate question. Spot asks brokers whether a recall form is available and what it includes.

### Is stock at our fulfillment center covered?

Only if the property schedule or an inland marine form addresses that location and the goods moving to and from it. Your Spot team lists each location and transit stage so the quote answers it.

### What does it cost to use Spot?

Spot charges a monthly fee set by your annual insurance spend and takes no commissions on premiums, whether you keep the broker who handles your retail program or switch.
