[Get Started](https://app.spot.insure/signup?coverage=product-liability&industry=aviation-and-space). Spot is not an insurance carrier and takes no commissions on premiums; you can keep your broker or switch.

## How Spot helps

1. **Describe each stage of your program.** Your Spot team splits the program into design, manufacture, ground test, flight, launch, on-orbit service and return, and records who owns and controls each asset at every step.
2. **Check contract clauses against your policies.** Send the customer contract or federal solicitation. Spot pulls out each insurance clause and requested limit and checks them against what you carry, including any umbrella the customer expects.
3. **Get quotes from aerospace specialists.** We work with brokers who place aerospace business, then compare product, property, transit and excess proposals and ask each one to point to separate hull wording where your phases need it.
4. **Keep shipping and handoff records in one place.** Carriers, destinations and the point where risk transfers stay in one place with your policies, so the next shipment or contract review starts from what’s already known.

## Who we help

- **Component and payload makers.** Hardware, payloads or integration work you deliver can cause injury or damage downstream.
- **Aircraft and spacecraft operators.** You run flight tests or missions, and hull and aircraft liability are separate questions from general coverage lines.
- **Launch participants.** A launch or reentry license can require a party to show financial responsibility, and you need to know whether that party is you.
- **Federal contractors.** Your contract’s insurance clauses name what to carry, and they differ from award to award.

## When to get this coverage

- **You’re booking a launch or reentry.** Identify which party must show financial responsibility under the FAA license and what amount applies. Maximum probable loss is an estimate, not a ceiling on costs.
- **You’re bidding on a federal contract.** Read the actual insurance clauses and ask the contracting officer which apply. Federal rules don’t give every aerospace contractor one package.
- **A flight test is coming up.** Hand the broker the mission phase, aircraft, crew duties and site, and ask which aircraft or spacecraft policy applies to that phase.
- **A payload is shipping to the launch site.** List every handoff, carrier and transfer point, and check that transit terms follow the item through loading, integration and acceptance.
- **A customer asks for higher limits.** An umbrella can add limits above your liability policies. Line up the underlying policies with the contract’s figures before you sign.

## Common questions

Also known as aerospace insurance, aerospace company insurance, aerospace manufacturer insurance, space company insurance, spacetech insurance and aviation company insurance.

### Is aerospace insurance one policy?

Rarely. Makers and launch participants usually combine product liability, property, cargo and transit, inland marine, workers’ compensation and excess limits, and some operators add aircraft cover. Spot maps each to the mission phase it protects.

### Is maximum probable loss the most a launch could cost?

No. It’s a probabilistic estimate for the licensed launch or reentry, and actual costs can exceed it. Insurance is one way to show the financial responsibility the license requires.

### Does every aerospace company need aircraft insurance for federal work?

No. Federal clauses address aircraft liability when aircraft are used in contract performance and the contracting officer requires it. Spot reads your specific award.

### Does product liability cover our components in flight?

General products terms address injury and property damage, but they aren’t aerospace-specific and may carry aviation exclusions. Your Spot team asks brokers how each proposal treats your components and mission phases.

### What does a broker need to see from our mission plan?

Send the mission phases, who owns each asset and what it’s worth, shipping routes, the contract’s insurance clauses and what your employees do at each site. Spot assembles them into the submission.

### Our broker doesn’t place aerospace risk. Does that mean switching?

Not unless you want to. Spot can prepare the mission submission with your current broker, and it takes no commissions on premiums. If hull, launch or aircraft liability needs a specialist, Spot can help you switch to a broker with aerospace markets.
