Sometimes. Commercial auto may cover business liability when employees use personal cars for work if non-owned auto coverage applies. It does not automatically insure the employee’s car for damage. A personal vehicle used for work can therefore raise two different questions: whether the business has liability protection when it is sued, and whether the owner’s vehicle itself has collision or comprehensive protection.

An illustrative ISO form extends insured status to some permissive users of covered autos but excludes an employee driving an auto owned by that employee or a household member from that particular insured provision. Hired and non-owned auto coverage is commonly intended to address the business’s liability exposure, not to provide physical damage coverage for the employee’s car.

Check whose policy insures the car, who is named as an insured, the scheduled vehicle symbols, and whether the quote includes non-owned liability or any physical damage option. Confirm personal policy permission with the employee’s insurer.
