Sometimes. A commercial auto policy may cover your business’s liability when you borrow a vehicle if non-owned auto coverage applies; damage to the borrowed vehicle is a separate question. California’s regulator says a Business Auto Policy can cover non-owned autos depending on coverage purchased. Under an illustrative ISO form, a permissive user may qualify as an insured when using a covered auto the business borrows, while the owner who loaned it is treated differently.

A business auto liability section generally addresses injury or damage the insured causes to others; it is not automatically physical damage insurance for property the business borrows. The ISO example lists limited trailer and temporary substitute auto extensions, not a broad promise to cover every borrowed vehicle.

Before borrowing, confirm the named insured, permission requirements, covered-auto symbols, liability limit, and whether collision or comprehensive applies. Also check the owner’s policy and any loan or rental agreement, especially if the vehicle will be used regularly or outside the owner’s normal territory.
