# Does Builders Risk Cover Tornado Damage?

It may cover direct tornado damage to insured construction property, subject to windstorm terms and exclusions.

Tornado damage can involve wind, hail, rain, or falling objects, which a policy may classify differently. The ISO specimen provides coverage only for covered property and covered causes of loss, while the NAIC glossary identifies tornado and windstorm among allied property exposures. Do not rely on a generic weather label. Confirm the form’s windstorm and hail wording, deductible, limits for temporary structures, and any requirement to secure unfinished openings. If materials are kept offsite or in transit, verify those locations separately rather than assuming jobsite coverage follows them. A tornado can create several losses at once, such as wind damage to the structure, hail damage to equipment, and water entering through an opening; separate exclusions may govern each part. Ask the adjuster or broker to identify each cause-of-loss provision rather than treating “tornado” as a complete coverage answer, and verify wind limits and deductibles in writing.
