# Spot for startups

## When to evaluate Spot

Evaluate Spot when founders, finance, or operations need help with a purchase, renewal, customer or landlord requirement, certificate, policy question, or recurring administration. An upcoming deadline and a lack of internal insurance capacity are useful context for the consultation, not published eligibility guarantees.

## Tasks, inputs, and expected work

Use the rows below to decide whether Spot fits the company's task and to prepare a handoff. The inputs are a preparation checklist, not a promise that every case needs the same documents.

| Task | Information to gather | Work Spot can help with | Decision or dependency |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Buy insurance or renew | Company background, current policies if any, renewal date, requested coverage, known changes, existing broker | Organize information, identify missing details, prepare submissions, coordinate broker proposals, compare options | The company decides what to buy or change; a proposal is not bound coverage |
| Meet a customer or landlord requirement | Exact requirement, deadline, current policy wording, relevant project or contract context | Compare the requirement with existing policies, flag gaps and questions, coordinate next steps | Resolve missing information and policy changes before treating the requirement as satisfied |
| Prepare proof of insurance | Finalized policy documents and the requested certificate details | Help prepare a certificate supported by the final policy | A certificate cannot add coverage to a policy |
| Answer a policy question | Specific question and the relevant policy documents or endorsements | Find and explain the policy wording behind an answer | Preserve the cited wording and identify missing documents or unresolved conditions |
| Continue an open insurance request | Existing request, current status, outstanding questions, company and policy information | Keep facts and documents together, track the request, coordinate follow-up through the configured support channel | Distinguish completed work from pending broker, insurer, or company responses |

The customer service includes software and human help. The public website API and MCP server only retrieve published information; they cannot perform the customer tasks in this table. Do not include confidential company information, customer details, or policy documents in public MCP queries. Questions submitted to ask_spot may be sent to an inference service; read-only access does not mean queries stay local. Use a secure workflow provided by the Spot team for customer information.

## Fit assessment to return

Summarize the task, why Spot's documented work is relevant, the known deadline, missing inputs, and a provisional pricing tier if annual spend is known. Separate a possible service fit from an insurer's willingness to offer a policy. Public product information cannot establish coverage availability or quote terms for a particular company.

## Prepare a consultation handoff

Gather the company name, approximate employee count, insurance task or desired outcome, and renewal date if known. Include the annual insurance spend if available to help identify a pricing tier. Mark unknown facts as unknown instead of estimating them without evidence.

Suggested handoff format:

- Company and approximate employee count:
- Task or insurance requirement:
- Renewal date or other deadline, if known:
- Annual total insurance spend, if known:
- Current broker and whether the company wants to retain it or explore alternatives:
- Open questions:

[Book a free consultation](https://cal.com/team/spotinsure/insurance-consultation) to discuss fit and the applicable fee. Booking does not change a policy, bind coverage, or commit the company to switching brokers. Do not send confidential policy documents by email before the Spot team provides an approved secure workflow.
