## Agent Guide

# Insure your physical product before it ships

Before your first units ship, your Spot team describes your product and your role in the supply chain to insurers, and checks quotes against your retailers’ terms.

- Your supply-chain role described the way underwriters ask
- Retailer and distributor requirements checked before you sign
- Keep your broker or switch, with no commissions on premiums

## How it works

- **Tell us about the product.** Share what it is, who makes each part, where it’s sold and the instructions and warnings that ship with it.
- **We read your retailer’s terms.** Your Spot team checks the vendor agreement’s product liability limits and additional insured wording, so the quotes meet them from the start.
- **Compare products cover and recall.** We work with brokers to quote product liability and recall, and show how each quote treats the products aggregate and withdrawal costs.
- **Send proof to your retailers.** Generate certificates in the Spot app for each retailer or distributor, and keep them current at every renewal.

A retailer accepted your product, and their vendor agreement wants product liability in place before the first shipment.

## Documents to have ready

- **Product descriptions.** What each product is and does, its components and where they come from.
- **Your role.** Whether you design, make, import, distribute or resell it, and who makes it if you don’t.
- **Sales and channels.** Expected sales, the retailers and marketplaces you’ll sell through, and where the product is used.
- **Testing and labeling.** Testing and quality-control records, instructions, warnings and marketing claims.
- **Retailer and distributor agreements.** The insurance sections of each agreement, so quotes are matched to them.

## Coverage

- [Product liability](https://spot.insure/insurance/product-liability/quotes): It can cover claims that a product you make, import, distribute or sell injured someone or damaged property, and your role in the supply chain shapes the policy.
- [Product recall](https://spot.insure/insurance/product-recall/quotes): Product liability doesn’t automatically pay to locate and withdraw a product, so recall costs need their own cover if a problem would make you organize returns.
- [General liability](https://spot.insure/insurance/general-liability/quotes): Products cover may come inside general liability as products-completed operations or as a separate policy, so confirm which you’re buying.
- [Cargo and transit](https://spot.insure/insurance/cargo-transit/quotes): Goods you own in transit from the factory or to customers need cover that matches the route and any storage stops.
- [Commercial property](https://spot.insure/insurance/commercial-property/quotes): Inventory in your warehouse or at a third-party facility needs property coverage, with its values and location listed.

## Common questions

### Does product liability pay for a recall?

Not automatically. Withdrawal and recall costs can be excluded even when product-injury claims are covered. Your Spot team shows you which quotes include them.

### We only resell the product. Do we still need product liability?

Product claims can involve retailers and distributors as well as manufacturers. Describe your role in getting the product to customers, and we’ll compare coverage on that basis.

### Can instructions and labels lead to a claim?

Yes. Instructions, warnings and marketing can be part of a product liability claim, so share them with your Spot team when we prepare the submission.

### Do I have to buy through Spot’s broker?

No. Spot works with your broker if you have one, takes no commissions on premiums and can introduce you to one if you don’t.
