# Replace your coverage after a non-renewal or cancellation

When an insurer won’t renew or cancels your policy, your Spot team reads the notice, prepares a new submission and works with brokers to replace the coverage before it ends.

- The notice read for its reason and end date
- A new submission that answers the insurer’s concern
- Keep your broker or switch, with no commissions on premiums

## How it works

- **Send us the notice.** Upload the non-renewal or cancellation notice and the policy it applies to. The reason and the end date shape everything that follows.
- **We prepare a new submission.** Your Spot team gathers your operations, loss runs and any changes you’ve made since the problem, so new insurers see the full picture.
- **Brokers find a replacement.** We work with your broker, or one we introduce, to take the submission to insurers that write businesses like yours, and follow up on their questions.
- **Bind before the old policy ends.** Compare the proposals on terms as well as price, then bind with an effective date that leaves no gap, and update certificates for anyone who holds one.

A notice says your insurer won’t renew your policy, and the date your coverage ends is printed on it.

## Documents to have ready

- **The notice.** The non-renewal or cancellation letter, with its reason and the date coverage ends.
- **The expiring policy.** Declarations, forms and endorsements, so the replacement can match or improve on them.
- **Loss runs.** Claims history from your current and past insurers. Your Spot team can ask your insurers for them.
- **What you’ve changed.** Repairs, new safety practices, removed drivers or discontinued work that answers the insurer’s concern.
- **Who holds your certificates.** Landlords, lenders and customers who will need a new certificate once the replacement binds.

## Coverage

- [General liability](https://spot.insure/insurance/general-liability/quotes): A replacement quote starts from your operations, locations and current policy, so describe the work as it is today.
- [Commercial property](https://spot.insure/insurance/commercial-property/quotes): Property insurers review building condition, safety and maintenance, so be ready to show what you’ve fixed or improved.
- [Commercial auto](https://spot.insure/insurance/commercial-auto/quotes): Insurers quote auto from your vehicles, how you use them and your drivers’ histories, so an updated schedule and driver list go into the new submission.
- [Umbrella and excess liability](https://spot.insure/insurance/umbrella-excess/quotes): If a primary policy moves to a new insurer, the umbrella’s underlying schedule has to list the replacement policy and its limits.

## Common questions

### Should I cancel my policy now and start over?

No. Keep your current policy in force until the replacement binds, and set the new effective date so there’s no gap between them.

### What’s the difference between a non-renewal and a cancellation?

A non-renewal means the insurer won’t offer another term when the policy ends. A cancellation ends coverage during the term. Read the notice for which one it is and the date.

### Can I find coverage after a non-renewal?

Spot can’t promise any insurer will offer terms. We prepare a submission that explains what happened and what’s changed, and work with brokers to take it to insurers that write your kind of business.

### Can my current broker handle the replacement?

Yes, and Spot works with them on it, with no commissions on premiums. If they can’t find a market, we can introduce a broker with different insurer relationships.
