# Buy your first business insurance with Spot

Tell us what your business does, and your Spot team works out which coverage you need first, gets quotes and helps you buy it.

- One set of answers instead of a form for every insurer

## How it works

- **Describe your business in plain words.** Tell us what you sell, who your customers are, where you work and whether you have staff or vehicles.
- **See which coverage you need first.** Your Spot team separates what a law, lease or contract requires from what protects you most, and what can wait until you grow.
- **Compare quotes in plain English.** We work with brokers to get quotes, then explain the limits, deductibles and exclusions in each so you know what you’re buying.
- **Keep everything in one place.** Your policies stay in your Spot workspace, and you can generate certificates from them yourself when a customer or landlord asks.

You’ve formed the company and started selling, and someone has just asked whether you’re insured.

## Documents to have ready

- **A description of your business.** What you do, what you sell and who you sell to, in your own words. Insurers classify your business from it.
- **Revenue and payroll estimates.** What you expect to bring in and pay staff over the next year. A first-year estimate is fine.
- **Where you work.** Your office, shop or home address, and any customer sites you work at.
- **Any contract or lease that mentions insurance.** If a landlord or customer has already asked for coverage, their wording tells us which policies to start with.

## Coverage

- [General liability](https://spot.insure/insurance/general-liability/quotes): The usual starting point if you meet customers, work at their sites or sell products, because it responds to injury and property-damage claims.
- [Business owner’s policy](https://spot.insure/insurance/business-owners-policy/quotes): If you qualify, a business owner’s policy packages liability with cover for your own property and lost income.
- [Professional errors and omissions (E&O)](https://spot.insure/insurance/professional-errors-omissions/quotes): If clients pay for your advice or services, general liability won’t answer a claim that your mistake cost them money.
- [Workers’ compensation](https://spot.insure/insurance/workers-compensation/quotes): Once you have employees, state rules decide whether you must carry it, and those rules differ from state to state.
- [Cyber liability](https://spot.insure/insurance/cyber/quotes): If you hold customer data or rely on software to sell, it can pay for breach response and claims after an incident.

## Common questions

### Do I need insurance if I work from home?

Possibly. Customers may still visit, you may hold equipment and stock, and clients may ask for proof of coverage. Your Spot team looks at what you do from home and what that calls for.

### Can I buy only one policy to start?

Yes. We help you work out which coverage matters most now, so you can start there and add more as contracts, staff and revenue grow.

### Does Spot sell insurance?

Spot isn’t an insurer and doesn’t set prices. We prepare your submission, work with brokers to take it to market and help you compare and buy, with no commissions on premiums.

### What if I don’t know my revenue yet?

Give your best estimate for the year ahead, and tell your Spot team how you got to it. We’ll ask the broker how each insurer treats a figure that turns out higher or lower.
