# Telehealth Insurance in Nevada

Nevada requires a provider directing care, diagnosing, or prescribing for a Nevada patient through telehealth to hold a Nevada license or certificate, subject to narrow exceptions. Remote clinicians are also subject to Nevada law and professional-board rules regardless of where they sit, and the telehealth statute does not expand scope of practice.[^1]

## What Is Virtual Care And Telehealth?

Telehealth liability can cover claims arising from remote health care, such as a video visit or remote monitoring. If you provide care online, match the quote to your clinicians, services and patient locations; cyber and in-person risks need separate review. [Read the national Virtual care and telehealth guide](/coverage/virtual-care-telehealth).

## What to Watch for in Nevada

### A Nevada Patient Triggers Nevada Credential Rules

NRS 629.515 generally requires a Nevada license or certificate before an out-of-state clinician directs care, diagnoses, or writes an order for a Nevada patient; the law includes a telemedicine license route and a limited urban Indian organization exception. Ask which credentials cover each profession and patient segment.[^1]

### Remote Providers Are Subject to Nevada Law

A distant-site provider treating a Nevada patient is subject to Nevada law, licensing-board regulations, and the same state and federal rules that would apply if located in Nevada. Confirm your policy covers the clinician’s Nevada patient work even when the practice is based elsewhere.[^1]

### A Remote Relationship Still Has to Fit Scope and Standard of Care

Nevada allows a telehealth relationship when clinically appropriate, but the statute does not enlarge a provider’s scope or authorize care that violates the standard or an unapproved setting. Identify specialty, prescribing, and asynchronous services accurately in the application.[^1][^2]

## Who Regulates Insurance in Nevada

**Nevada Division of Insurance.** The Nevada Division of Insurance regulates insurers and producers and provides a license verification tool for agents, agencies and companies. Its Consumer Services unit accepts insurance complaints and questions.[^3][^4][^5]

### Surplus-Lines Tax and Stamping Office

**Reported tax rate:** Same tax rate as admitted coverage of the same kind; an approved filing fee may also apply When Nevada is the insured’s home state, Nevada taxes surplus-lines coverage at the rate imposed on similar admitted coverage and adds any approved filing fee; the rate therefore depends on the line and applicable fee approval. Nevada law requires a diligent effort to place coverage with authorized insurers except where the statutory exempt-commercial-purchaser conditions apply, and the policy must warn that the Nevada Insurance Guaranty Association will not cover the contract.[^6][^7][^8][^9]

## Providers With Documented State Licenses

No provider in Spot’s research documents both a state license record and this coverage line. This does not establish that providers are unlicensed. [Check the regulator’s license lookup](https://doi.nv.gov/licensing-search/) and confirm availability with a provider when requesting a quote.

## Questions to Ask Before You Buy in Nevada

1. Which clinicians hold Nevada licenses or telemedicine credentials for the patients they serve?
2. Does the policy name remote clinicians and cover Nevada patients even when staff are physically elsewhere?
3. How does the quote handle each profession’s scope limits and Nevada prescribing services?

## Virtual Care And Telehealth in Nevada: FAQ

### Do out-of-state providers need a Nevada license for telehealth?

Generally yes. NRS 629.515 requires Nevada authority to direct care, diagnose, or prescribe for a Nevada patient, subject to specified exceptions and telemedicine-license pathways.[^1]

### Does Nevada law apply when the telehealth provider is outside the state?

Yes. A provider treating a Nevada patient remotely is subject to Nevada law and applicable professional-board regulations regardless of the provider’s location.[^1]
