# Professional Liability (E&O) Insurance in Tennessee

Tennessee requires active licensed home inspectors to maintain E&O covering all home-inspection activities under the state licensing act, but the state specifies no minimum E&O limit. The separate general-liability minimum is $500,000, and the State must be named as certificate holder on the insurance documentation.[^3][^1]

**Coverage:** [Professional errors and omissions (E&O)](/coverage/professional-errors-omissions) · [Tennessee](/coverage/states/tennessee)

## What Is Professional Errors And Omissions (E&O)?

Professional liability can help pay defense costs and covered losses when a client says your advice or service caused financial harm. If customers rely on your work, list every service you provide and check the claims-made reporting and prior-work terms. [Read the national Professional errors and omissions (E&O) guide](/coverage/professional-errors-omissions).

## Tennessee Requirements

| Requirement | Details |
| --- | --- |
| Active Home Inspector E&O | Required for all home-inspection activities under T.C.A. §62-6-301; no state minimum limit specified[^3][^1] |
| Active Home Inspector General Liability | At least $500,000; separate from E&O[^3][^1] |

## What to Watch for in Tennessee

### Inactive Licensees Are Outside the Duty

Tennessee exempts inactive home-inspector licensees from maintaining both policies, and an inactive licensee may not perform the licensed business. If you return to active status, arrange current E&O for all contemplated inspection work before submitting reinstatement proof.[^3][^2]

### Name the State on the Certificate

Tennessee’s rule says the State of Tennessee must be the certificate holder on the insurance documentation. Check that both E&O and general-liability certificates identify the applicant and the program’s required certificate holder before filing.[^1][^3]

### Report Policy Changes Within 30 Days

An active licensee must notify the Board within 30 days of any insurance-policy change, including expiration, termination, carrier, term, or coverage dates. Ask the broker who will send notice and keep confirmation; the state gives no E&O limit, so choose and document your own limit.[^2][^3]

## Who Regulates Insurance in Tennessee

**Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance.** TDCI regulates and licenses insurance companies, agents, brokers, surplus-lines agents, and public adjusters. Its complaint process accepts complaints about agents or companies when the policy was written in Tennessee, and its property/casualty unit reviews filed policy rates, rules, and forms.[^4][^5][^6]

- [License lookup](https://www.tn.gov/commerce/insurance/agent-producer-resources.html)
- [File a complaint](https://www.tn.gov/content/tn/commerce/insurance/consumer-resources/file-a-complaint.html)

### Surplus-Lines Tax and Stamping Office

**Reported tax rate:** 5% of gross premium plus 0.175% SLAS transaction fee For Tennessee-home-state surplus-lines policies, TDCI lists a 5% tax on gross premium and a 0.175% SLAS transaction fee on gross premium; the agent receives an invoice and pays both through SLIP. The sources reviewed do not establish that the fee is always separately charged to the policyholder or resolve guaranty-association treatment, so ask your broker to itemize charges and review the policy notice.[^7][^8]

## Providers With Documented State Licenses

These providers publish a national listing for Professional errors and omissions (E&O); the state records document licenses for the entities and roles shown below. Some records rely on company-reported information rather than independent regulator verification. A national listing does not confirm that the product is available in Tennessee; [check the regulator’s license lookup](https://www.tn.gov/commerce/insurance/agent-producer-resources.html) and confirm state availability for your business when requesting a quote.

- [At-Bay](/insurance-providers/at-bay) — **Entity:** At-Bay Insurance Services LLC; **role:** Insurance producer, Surplus-lines broker; **checked:** 2026-09-28. **Scope:** At-Bay’s license page lists P&C producer and surplus-lines broker license numbers for all 50 states and the District of Columbia. These are company disclosures and do not establish product availability in each jurisdiction.[^9]
- [Coalition](/insurance-providers/coalition) — **Entity:** Coalition Insurance Solutions, Inc.; **role:** Insurance producer, Surplus-lines broker; **checked:** 2026-09-28. **Scope:** Coalition’s license page lists producer and surplus-lines licenses for Coalition Insurance Solutions, Inc. in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. The page separately lists insurers; this record covers the brokerage entity only.[^10]
- [Corgi](/insurance-providers/corgi) — **Entity:** Corgi Insurance Services, Inc.; **role:** Insurance producer; **checked:** 2026-09-28. **Scope:** Corgi’s company producer-license table lists 50 jurisdictions: 49 states and the District of Columbia, including DC license 3003091619. New Mexico does not appear in the table and is not included here; the omission does not establish that Corgi is unlicensed there. The company-reported table has no stated as-of date and does not establish product availability.[^11]
- [ERGO NEXT Insurance](/insurance-providers/next-insurance) — **Entity:** Next First Insurance Agency, Inc.; **role:** Insurance producer; **checked:** 2026-09-28. **Scope:** ERGO NEXT’s current license table lists Next First Insurance Agency, Inc. in 50 jurisdictions, including Washington, DC; New York is excluded because its table rows name Next Insurance Services and AP Intego, not Next First. The table is company-reported; it does not establish product availability or provide state-regulator verification for each entry.[^13]
- [Hiscox](/insurance-providers/hiscox) — **Entity:** Hiscox Insurance Company Inc.; **role:** Insurer; **checked:** 2026-09-28. **Scope:** Hiscox’s U.S. company information states that Hiscox Insurance Company Inc. is licensed in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. This is company-reported insurer authority for this entity and does not establish which company issues every Hiscox-branded product.[^12]
- [TechInsurance](/insurance-providers/techinsurance) — **Entity:** Specialty Program Group LLC; **role:** Insurance producer; **checked:** 2026-09-28. **Scope:** TechInsurance’s current licensing page names Specialty Program Group LLC / SPG Insurance Solutions and lists state license numbers, but labels Rhode Island “Individual licenses” rather than identifying a license for the named agency. RI is omitted because this disclosure does not establish agency authority there; this is a search limitation, not an assertion that the company is unlicensed. The remaining state entries are company-reported and are not an insurance product availability map.[^14]
- [Vouch](/insurance-providers/vouch) — **Entity:** Vouch Specialty Insurance Services, LLC; **role:** Insurance producer, Surplus-lines broker; **checked:** 2026-09-28. **Scope:** Vouch’s licenses page, effective January 16, 2025, lists producer licenses in all 50 states and DC. Its separate surplus-lines table includes Idaho number 870820, while a footnote says Georgia and Idaho do not issue agency-level surplus-lines licenses. Because those statements conflict for Idaho, this record keeps Idaho producer-only and does not treat the table number as established agency surplus-lines authority. The page is company-reported and does not establish product availability.[^15]
