# Medical malpractice insurance in Oklahoma

Effective July 27, 2026, Oklahoma’s osteopathic-board annual registration rule requires a physician renewing an active osteopathic license to attest to active medical-malpractice liability insurance. That renewal attestation is specific to the Board of Osteopathic Examiners; a separate statute addresses claim reporting for healing-arts practitioners and licensed hospitals. Neither rule substitutes for checking the policy’s covered people and practice.[^1][^2]

## What Is Medical Malpractice?

Medical malpractice insurance can pay defense costs and covered damages when a patient claims a clinician’s care caused harm. If you provide health care, match the quote to your practice, clinicians, specialties and procedures, then check who is insured. [Read the national Medical malpractice guide](/coverage/medical-malpractice).

## What to Watch for in Oklahoma

### Keep the osteopathic renewal rule in its lane

The current annual-registration attestation is issued by the State Board of Osteopathic Examiners for a physician renewing that license. Do not extend it to every Oklahoma physician, nurse, PA or facility without that profession’s own authority.[^1]

### Make the attestation match the policy

The rule asks for an attestation of active insurance; it does not state limits or define services, entity coverage, retroactive dates or exclusions. Confirm the current declarations, endorsements and continuity dates before renewal.[^1]

### Do not confuse Board reporting with claim notice

Title 76 §17 assigns the report to the liability insurer when a personal-injury claim is made against a healing-arts practitioner or licensed hospital; an uninsured party must report instead. This Board report is separate from policy notice, so identify both the reporting party and carrier deadline.[^2]

## Who Regulates Insurance in Oklahoma

**Oklahoma Insurance Department.** OID's Licensing Division oversees new and renewed producer, adjuster, and business-entity licenses. Its consumer assistance process takes insurance complaints and requests for help; the licensee lookup displays license status and expiration.[^3][^4][^5]

### Surplus-Lines Tax and Stamping Office

**Reported tax rate:** 6% of premium and fees, plus 0.175% SLAS transaction fee For Oklahoma-home-state placements, OID says the 6% surplus-lines tax base includes premium and fees; SLIP also bills a 0.175% SLAS transaction fee. Oklahoma law requires a policy notice that surplus-lines coverage has no guaranty-association protection, so ask your broker to itemize the tax and transaction fee.[^6][^7][^8]

## Providers With Documented State Licenses

These providers publish a national listing for Medical malpractice; the state records document licenses for the entities and roles shown below. Some records rely on company-reported information rather than independent regulator verification. A national listing does not confirm that the product is available in Oklahoma; [check the regulator’s license lookup](https://www.oid.ok.gov/licensing-and-education/licensee-look-up/) and confirm state availability for your business when requesting a quote.

- [Corgi](/insurance-providers/corgi) — **Entity:** Corgi Insurance Services, Inc.; **role:** Insurance producer; **checked:** 2026-09-28. **Scope:** Corgi’s company producer-license table lists 50 jurisdictions: 49 states and the District of Columbia, including DC license 3003091619. New Mexico does not appear in the table and is not included here; the omission does not establish that Corgi is unlicensed there. The company-reported table has no stated as-of date and does not establish product availability.[^11]
- [Vouch](/insurance-providers/vouch) — **Entity:** Vouch Specialty Insurance Services, LLC; **role:** Insurance producer, Surplus-lines broker; **checked:** 2026-09-28. **Scope:** Vouch’s licenses page, effective January 16, 2025, lists producer licenses in all 50 states and DC. Its separate surplus-lines table includes Idaho number 870820, while a footnote says Georgia and Idaho do not issue agency-level surplus-lines licenses. Because those statements conflict for Idaho, this record keeps Idaho producer-only and does not treat the table number as established agency surplus-lines authority. The page is company-reported and does not establish product availability.[^15]

## Questions to Ask Before You Buy in Oklahoma

1. Is the practitioner renewing an active osteopathic license covered by rule 510:10-3-8(e), or does a different board rule apply?
2. Can the declarations and endorsements substantiate the renewal attestation for the actual person, entity, specialty and dates?
3. For a claim against a healing-arts practitioner or licensed hospital, will the insurer make the separate Board report, or must the uninsured party report, and who sends notice under the policy?

## Medical Malpractice in Oklahoma: FAQ

### Does Oklahoma impose the cited annual insurance attestation on all providers?

The cited rule applies to annual renewal by the State Board of Osteopathic Examiners. It should not be generalized to other professions without their own current licensing rule.[^1]

### Does the state claim-reporting rule satisfy the policy notice clause?

No. A statutory or regulatory report to a board is a separate duty from notifying an insurer under a policy. Follow each trigger and deadline independently.[^2]
