# General Liability Insurance in Oklahoma

Oklahoma's Construction Industries Board currently requires $500,000 in general liability for residential-only roofing and $1 million for commercial roofing, with carrier proof that the policy specifically covers roofing. Active plumbing, electrical, and mechanical contractors face a separate $50,000 minimum and must put the individual license holder's name on the certificate.[^1][^2]

**Coverage:** [General liability](/coverage/general-liability) · [Oklahoma](/coverage/states/oklahoma)

## What Is General Liability?

General liability can protect your business when a customer or visitor claims you caused injury or damaged their property. It suits businesses serving customers or working on their premises; your own building, tools and stock need property coverage. [Read the national General liability guide](/coverage/general-liability).

## Oklahoma Requirements

| Requirement | Details |
| --- | --- |
| Residential-only roofing registration | $500,000 minimum GL; CIB named as certificate holder; carrier must confirm roofing work is covered[^1] |
| Commercial roofing endorsement | $1,000,000 minimum commercial GL; CIB named as certificate holder; carrier must confirm roofing work is covered[^1] |
| Active plumbing, electrical, or mechanical contractor license | $50,000 minimum commercial GL; individual license holder named on certificate[^2] |

## What to Watch for in Oklahoma

### Roofing Endorsement Changes the Floor

CIB’s current FAQ requires $500,000 for residential-only roofing and $1 million for a commercial endorsement. Before taking commercial jobs, confirm the license endorsement and that the carrier—not only the certificate—confirms roofing work is covered.[^1]

### Check the New Residential Endorsement

The CIB notice says a current roofing registration and, for commercial roofing, a current endorsement are required before offering or performing that work unless an Act exemption applies. The CIB’s September 18, 2026 FAQ still lists the $500,000 residential-only GL floor; confirm the endorsement class and proof required for your next registration or renewal.[^3][^1]

### The License Holder Must Match the Proof

For active plumbing, electrical, or mechanical contractors, CIB asks for at least $50,000 in commercial GL and requires the individual license holder’s name on the certificate. Check that the person named on the license appears as insured as CIB requires, in addition to any operating company.[^2]

## Who Regulates Insurance in Oklahoma

**Oklahoma Insurance Department.** OID's Licensing Division oversees new and renewed producer, adjuster, and business-entity licenses. Its consumer assistance process takes insurance complaints and requests for help; the licensee lookup displays license status and expiration.[^4][^5][^6]

- [License lookup](https://www.oid.ok.gov/licensing-and-education/licensee-look-up/)
- [File a complaint](https://www.oid.ok.gov/consumers/file-an-online-complaint/)

### Surplus-Lines Tax and Stamping Office

**Reported tax rate:** 6% of premium and fees, plus 0.175% SLAS transaction fee For Oklahoma-home-state placements, OID says the 6% surplus-lines tax base includes premium and fees; SLIP also bills a 0.175% SLAS transaction fee. Oklahoma law requires a policy notice that surplus-lines coverage has no guaranty-association protection, so ask your broker to itemize the tax and transaction fee.[^7][^8][^9]

## Providers With Documented State Licenses

These providers publish a national listing for General liability; the state records document licenses for the entities and roles shown below. Some records rely on company-reported information rather than independent regulator verification. A national listing does not confirm that the product is available in Oklahoma; [check the regulator’s license lookup](https://www.oid.ok.gov/licensing-and-education/licensee-look-up/) and confirm state availability for your business when requesting a quote.

- [Corgi](/insurance-providers/corgi) — **Entity:** Corgi Insurance Services, Inc.; **role:** Insurance producer; **checked:** 2026-09-28. **Scope:** Corgi’s company producer-license table lists 50 jurisdictions: 49 states and the District of Columbia, including DC license 3003091619. New Mexico does not appear in the table and is not included here; the omission does not establish that Corgi is unlicensed there. The company-reported table has no stated as-of date and does not establish product availability.[^12]
- [ERGO NEXT Insurance](/insurance-providers/next-insurance) — **Entity:** Next First Insurance Agency, Inc.; **role:** Insurance producer; **checked:** 2026-09-28. **Scope:** ERGO NEXT’s current license table lists Next First Insurance Agency, Inc. in 50 jurisdictions, including Washington, DC; New York is excluded because its table rows name Next Insurance Services and AP Intego, not Next First. The table is company-reported; it does not establish product availability or provide state-regulator verification for each entry.[^14]
- [Hiscox](/insurance-providers/hiscox) — **Entity:** Hiscox Insurance Company Inc.; **role:** Insurer; **checked:** 2026-09-28. **Scope:** Hiscox’s U.S. company information states that Hiscox Insurance Company Inc. is licensed in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. This is company-reported insurer authority for this entity and does not establish which company issues every Hiscox-branded product.[^13]
- [TechInsurance](/insurance-providers/techinsurance) — **Entity:** Specialty Program Group LLC; **role:** Insurance producer; **checked:** 2026-09-28. **Scope:** TechInsurance’s current licensing page names Specialty Program Group LLC / SPG Insurance Solutions and lists state license numbers, but labels Rhode Island “Individual licenses” rather than identifying a license for the named agency. RI is omitted because this disclosure does not establish agency authority there; this is a search limitation, not an assertion that the company is unlicensed. The remaining state entries are company-reported and are not an insurance product availability map.[^15]
- [Vouch](/insurance-providers/vouch) — **Entity:** Vouch Specialty Insurance Services, LLC; **role:** Insurance producer, Surplus-lines broker; **checked:** 2026-09-28. **Scope:** Vouch’s licenses page, effective January 16, 2025, lists producer licenses in all 50 states and DC. Its separate surplus-lines table includes Idaho number 870820, while a footnote says Georgia and Idaho do not issue agency-level surplus-lines licenses. Because those statements conflict for Idaho, this record keeps Idaho producer-only and does not treat the table number as established agency surplus-lines authority. The page is company-reported and does not establish product availability.[^16]

## Questions to Ask Before You Buy in Oklahoma

1. Does the current CIB roofing registration or commercial endorsement match the jobs we take, and has the carrier confirmed roofing work is covered?
2. For a CIB licensed plumbing, electrical, or mechanical contractor, whose name must appear as the insured on the GL certificate?
3. What limits apply if we switch from residential-only roofing to commercial roofing?

## General Liability in Oklahoma: FAQ

### How much GL does an Oklahoma roofing contractor need?

$500,000 for residential-only roofing; $1 million for commercial roofing under the CIB’s current FAQ. The policy carrier must confirm that it specifically covers roofing work.[^1]

### Does Oklahoma require GL for licensed plumbing, electrical, and mechanical contractors?

Yes. CIB currently lists a $50,000 commercial GL minimum for active license holders in those trades and requires the individual license holder’s name on the certificate.[^2]
