# Equipment Breakdown Insurance in Wyoming

The Wyoming State Fire Marshal adopted the 2024 International Mechanical Code, Fuel Gas Code, Building Code, and Fire Code on June 28, 2024, and issues a certificate of occupancy or letter of compliance after plan-review inspections of public buildings. The fire-prevention page and the fire and electrical safety statute that rendered do not create a statewide boiler certificate, an inspection interval, or an insurance-company boiler inspector. Treat equipment-breakdown coverage as its own contract, and ask the local building official which mechanical-code inspection applies to the boiler.[^1][^2]

## What Is Equipment Breakdown?

Equipment-breakdown coverage can help repair covered machinery or building equipment after a mechanical or electrical failure. It fits businesses that depend on equipment to operate; check whether lost income, spoilage and utility failures are included. [Read the national Equipment breakdown guide](/coverage/equipment-breakdown).

## What to Watch for in Wyoming

### Installation Follows the 2024 Mechanical Code

On June 28, 2024, Wyoming adopted the 2024 International Fire Code, Building Code, Fuel Gas Code, Mechanical Code, and Existing Building Code. Those codes govern how heating equipment is installed in buildings the fire marshal reviews. They are not a periodic boiler-certificate program, and they do not state an equipment-breakdown limit.[^1]

### The Credential on This Page Is an Occupancy Certificate

Fire Prevention does plan review for public buildings, including fire alarm, suppression, kitchen hoods, and above-ground tanks, then inspects construction against the approved plans. Passing those inspections produces a certificate of occupancy or letter of compliance. A fire-maintenance inspection of a restaurant, hotel, or industrial building is not a boiler internal inspection.[^1]

### Local Governments Can Take the Inspection

The Department of Fire Prevention and Electrical Safety statute that rendered contains no boiler or pressure-vessel inspection program. It lets municipalities and counties that qualify enforce local or state fire, building, existing-building, or electrical standards, and it assigns plan-review and construction-inspection roles. Ask the city or county whether it, or the state fire marshal, inspects the mechanical installation. Do not assume a state special inspector will visit because an insurer writes equipment breakdown.[^2]

### No Statewide Interval Was on the Pages That Opened

Requests for a current statewide boiler-inspection statute did not return a certificate interval or a Btu, psi, or gallon exemption. A 2012 notice of intent that mentioned insurance-company boiler certificates was a proposal, not an adopted code, and it is not used here. Ask the local official what inspection the adopted mechanical code requires, and ask the broker what repair and business-income terms apply if that inspection is not a jurisdictional boiler certificate.[^1][^2]

## Who Regulates Insurance in Wyoming

**Wyoming Department of Insurance.** The Wyoming Department of Insurance administers Wyoming insurance laws, oversees insurers and insurance producers within its authority, and provides regulatory and consumer resources. You can use the department's complaint process to raise an insurance issue and its licensing resources to check insurance professionals.[^3][^4][^5]

### Surplus-Lines Tax and Stamping Office

**Reported tax rate:** 3% of premium The NAIC's state chart lists a 3% of premium charge for surplus-lines coverage for Wyoming (the chart's state entries were reviewed in October 2025). Your broker may collect the applicable amount with the premium. Surplus-lines insurers are not licensed in the state and generally are outside state guaranty-association protection; ask your broker to explain the insurer's financial protections and any diligent-search requirement that applies to your placement.[^6][^7]

## Providers With Documented State Licenses

No provider in Spot’s research documents both a state license record and this coverage line. This does not establish that providers are unlicensed. [Check the regulator’s license lookup](https://nipr.com/licensing-center) and confirm availability with a provider when requesting a quote.

## Questions to Ask Before You Buy in Wyoming

1. Which authority reviews this boiler installation: the State Fire Marshal or a certified local government?
2. Does the 2024 International Mechanical Code inspection for this occupancy require a boiler shut-down, and when?
3. Is the document you will receive a certificate of occupancy, a letter of compliance, or something else?
4. What equipment-breakdown limit, deductible, and business-income waiting period apply, separate from the occupancy inspection?

## Equipment Breakdown in Wyoming: FAQ

### Does the Wyoming State Fire Marshal issue a periodic boiler certificate of operation?

Not on the fire-prevention page that was opened. That page adopts the 2024 International Codes and issues a certificate of occupancy or letter of compliance after plan-review inspections. It does not publish a boiler inspection interval or an insurance-inspector commission.[^1]

### Can a Wyoming city inspect a boiler installation instead of the state?

The fire and electrical safety statute allows a qualifying municipality or county to enforce local or state fire and building standards and, in stated cases, to take construction-inspection authority. Confirm which office has your building before you schedule a shutdown.[^2]
