# Employment Practices Liability in Mississippi

The EEOC Jackson office lists a 180-day charge deadline for covered Mississippi employers: generally 15 or more employees for Title VII and disability claims, and 20 or more for age claims. Mississippi Department of Employment Security complaint materials address its own federally funded workforce programs; they are not a substitute for preserving a private-employer charge with EEOC.[^1][^2]

**Coverage:** [Employment practices liability](/coverage/employment-practices) · [Mississippi](/coverage/states/mississippi)

## What Is Employment Practices Liability?

EPLI can help pay covered defense costs and losses when applicants or workers allege discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination or other workplace wrongdoing. If you employ people, check the claim definition, defense costs and prior acts. [Read the national Employment practices liability guide](/coverage/employment-practices).

## What to Watch for in Mississippi

### Calendar the Jackson filing window

The EEOC Jackson office states that a charge for covered race, color, national-origin, sex, religion, or disability discrimination generally must be filed within 180 days; age claims have the same 180-day period. Track the date of each employment action so an internal investigation does not consume the filing window.[^1]

### Keep MDES program complaints distinct

MDES describes its Equal Opportunity Department as supporting the agency’s own operations and workforce-program nondiscrimination. A complaint form for a workforce program does not establish that a private-company claim has been filed with EEOC; route employee notices to the proper agency and policy contact.[^2][^1]

### Preserve the response trail

Federal employment laws prohibit retaliation for opposing discrimination or participating in a charge investigation. Keep the original report, decision records, and later personnel actions together so the carrier can evaluate the underlying allegation and any retaliation theory.[^1]

## Who Regulates Insurance in Mississippi

**Mississippi Insurance Department.** The Mississippi Insurance Department licenses agents and companies, enforces state insurance laws, and investigates insurance complaints. You can use its state lookup or complaint service to check a license or raise an insurance issue.[^3][^4][^5]

### Surplus-Lines Tax and Stamping Office

**Reported tax rate:** 4% premium tax and 0.25% stamping fee on gross premium and policy fees when Mississippi is the insured's home state; MSLA says do not report if Mississippi is not the home state unless 100% of premium is allocated to Mississippi. A separate 3% MWUA fee applies to gross premium and policy fees except residential flood and earthquake. For policies quoted or bound on or after July 1, 2017, Mississippi no longer requires a general diligent search before surplus-lines placement. If Mississippi is the insured's home state, the published charges are 4% premium tax and a 0.25% stamping fee on gross premium and policy fees, plus a separate 3% MWUA fee except for residential flood and earthquake; Mississippi's required policy notice says a nonadmitted insurer is not protected by the Mississippi Insurance Guaranty Association if it becomes insolvent.[^6][^7][^8][^9][^10]

## Providers With Documented State Licenses

These providers publish a national listing for Employment practices liability; the state records document licenses for the entities and roles shown below. Some records rely on company-reported information rather than independent regulator verification. A national listing does not confirm that the product is available in Mississippi; [check the regulator’s license lookup](https://www.mid.ms.gov/mississippi-insurance-department/licensing-search/) and confirm state availability for your business when requesting a quote.

- [Coalition](/insurance-providers/coalition) — **Entity:** Coalition Insurance Solutions, Inc.; **role:** Insurance producer, Surplus-lines broker; **checked:** 2026-09-28. **Scope:** Coalition’s license page lists producer and surplus-lines licenses for Coalition Insurance Solutions, Inc. in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. The page separately lists insurers; this record covers the brokerage entity only.[^12]
- [Corgi](/insurance-providers/corgi) — **Entity:** Corgi Insurance Services, Inc.; **role:** Insurance producer; **checked:** 2026-09-28. **Scope:** Corgi’s company producer-license table lists 50 jurisdictions: 49 states and the District of Columbia, including DC license 3003091619. New Mexico does not appear in the table and is not included here; the omission does not establish that Corgi is unlicensed there. The company-reported table has no stated as-of date and does not establish product availability.[^13]
- [TechInsurance](/insurance-providers/techinsurance) — **Entity:** Specialty Program Group LLC; **role:** Insurance producer; **checked:** 2026-09-28. **Scope:** TechInsurance’s current licensing page names Specialty Program Group LLC / SPG Insurance Solutions and lists state license numbers, but labels Rhode Island “Individual licenses” rather than identifying a license for the named agency. RI is omitted because this disclosure does not establish agency authority there; this is a search limitation, not an assertion that the company is unlicensed. The remaining state entries are company-reported and are not an insurance product availability map.[^16]
- [Vouch](/insurance-providers/vouch) — **Entity:** Vouch Specialty Insurance Services, LLC; **role:** Insurance producer, Surplus-lines broker; **checked:** 2026-09-28. **Scope:** Vouch’s licenses page, effective January 16, 2025, lists producer licenses in all 50 states and DC. Its separate surplus-lines table includes Idaho number 870820, while a footnote says Georgia and Idaho do not issue agency-level surplus-lines licenses. Because those statements conflict for Idaho, this record keeps Idaho producer-only and does not treat the table number as established agency surplus-lines authority. The page is company-reported and does not establish product availability.[^17]

2. Does an MDES workforce-program complaint cover a private employer?
3. Who must receive an internal report and an EEOC charge, and by when?

## Employment Practices Liability in Mississippi: FAQ

### How long does an employee generally have to file an EEOC charge in Mississippi?

The EEOC Jackson office lists 180 days from the alleged harm for covered race, color, national-origin, sex, religion, and disability claims, and 180 days for age claims against covered employers.[^1]

### Does an MDES Equal Opportunity complaint replace a private-employer EEOC charge?

No. MDES describes an Equal Opportunity process for its agency and workforce-program operations. Its materials do not say that filing there preserves a private-employer charge with EEOC.[^2][^1]
