# Commercial Auto Insurance in Alaska

Alaska requires at least $50,000/$100,000 bodily-injury liability and $25,000 property damage for a vehicle subject to registration. A crash involving an injury or death, or more than $501 in damage to one person’s property, triggers a Form 466 filing with DMV within 15 days; the form accepts several ways to show financial responsibility, not only an insurance policy. Those post-crash alternatives address financial responsibility and do not replace the liability insurance required for vehicles subject to registration.[^1][^2]

**Coverage:** [Commercial auto](/coverage/commercial-auto) · [Alaska](/coverage/states/alaska)

## What Is Commercial Auto?

Commercial auto suits businesses that use vehicles for work and need liability protection; damage to your own vehicles is a separate coverage choice. If employees drive personal or rented cars, check how those trips are handled. [Read the national Commercial auto guide](/coverage/commercial-auto).

## Alaska Requirements

| Requirement | Details |
| --- | --- |
| Liability minimum for vehicles subject to registration | $50,000 per person / $100,000 per accident / $25,000 property damage[^1] |
| Form 466 post-crash filing | Within 15 days after a crash involving injury/death or more than $501 property damage to any one person[^2] |

## What to Watch for in Alaska

### Registration Status Controls The Liability Mandate

The Alaska DMV ties its $50,000/$100,000/$25,000 minimum to vehicles subject to registration. Check the vehicle’s registration status before assuming that the same mandate applies to every vehicle a business uses.[^1]

### A Threshold Crash Starts A 15-Day DMV Deadline

Form 466 says to complete and mail or fax the form within 15 days when anyone is injured or killed, or one person’s property damage exceeds $501. Assign responsibility for the form as soon as a fleet crash meets either threshold.[^2]

### Post-Crash Alternatives Do Not Replace Required Insurance

Form 466 lists an in-force liability policy as one method, alongside a release, settlement plus future proof, a security deposit plus future proof, or a court finding of no liability. These alternatives address post-crash financial responsibility; they do not replace the liability insurance required for vehicles subject to registration. Keep the records supporting the method selected.[^2][^1]

### Drivers Must Carry Current Proof

The Alaska DMV says proof of motor-vehicle liability insurance must be in the driver’s possession and shown on request. Keep a current card in every registered fleet vehicle and replace outdated cards when coverage changes.[^1]

## Who Regulates Insurance in Alaska

**Alaska Division of Insurance.** The Alaska Division of Insurance regulates insurers and insurance licensees, provides company and licensee searches, and investigates insurance complaints within its authority. Its consumer-services section handles disputes involving claims, cancellations, premium refunds, agents, and insurers.[^3][^4][^5]

### Surplus-Lines Tax and Stamping Office

**Reported tax rate:** 2.7% of gross premium less returns plus 1% filing fee; wet marine: 0.75%, no fee For covered property and casualty surplus-lines risks, Alaska lists a 2.7% tax and a separate 1% filing fee on gross premium less returned premium. Qualifying wet-marine and transportation policies instead carry a 0.75% tax on gross premium and no filing fee; risks of state or local government and certain interstate aircraft are exempt from both tax and fee. A multistate placement is regulated under the insured’s home-state rules, and Alaska says to evaluate each policy’s home state separately.[^7][^6][^8][^9]

**Alaska has a placement-list exception:** If a risk appears on Alaska’s surplus-lines placement list, the Division says the broker does not have to canvass admitted insurers for declinations before placement; the broker must document the applicable list entry.[^6]

**Alaska has limited tax and search exceptions:** The Division says qualifying wet-marine and transportation policies need no diligent search and pay no 1% filing fee. Tax and filing fees also do not apply to state or political-subdivision risks or qualifying interstate aircraft, although other placement requirements remain.[^10]

## Providers With Documented State Licenses

These providers publish a national listing for Commercial auto; the state records document licenses for the entities and roles shown below. Some records rely on company-reported information rather than independent regulator verification. A national listing does not confirm that the product is available in Alaska; [check the regulator’s license lookup](https://www.commerce.alaska.gov/web/ins/Consumers/ConsumerTools/ResearchaCompany.aspx) and confirm state availability for your business when requesting a quote.

- [Corgi](/insurance-providers/corgi) — **Entity:** Corgi Insurance Services, Inc.; **role:** Insurance producer; **checked:** 2026-09-28. **Scope:** Corgi’s company producer-license table lists 50 jurisdictions: 49 states and the District of Columbia, including DC license 3003091619. New Mexico does not appear in the table and is not included here; the omission does not establish that Corgi is unlicensed there. The company-reported table has no stated as-of date and does not establish product availability.[^13]
- [TechInsurance](/insurance-providers/techinsurance) — **Entity:** Specialty Program Group LLC; **role:** Insurance producer; **checked:** 2026-09-28. **Scope:** TechInsurance’s current licensing page names Specialty Program Group LLC / SPG Insurance Solutions and lists state license numbers, but labels Rhode Island “Individual licenses” rather than identifying a license for the named agency. RI is omitted because this disclosure does not establish agency authority there; this is a search limitation, not an assertion that the company is unlicensed. The remaining state entries are company-reported and are not an insurance product availability map.[^16]
