# Cargo Insurance in Nevada

Before regulated Nevada household-goods service, the carrier must tell you in writing the scope of standard liability and whether additional coverage is available. Nevada also requires a lost-or-damaged freight claim against a common or contract motor carrier within seven days after discovery, so get the carrier’s written claim and valuation terms before pickup.[^1][^2]

**Coverage:** [Cargo and transit](/coverage/cargo-transit) · [Nevada](/coverage/states/nevada)

## What Is Cargo And Transit?

Cargo coverage fits a shipper protecting goods it owns or a carrier responsible for another party’s goods. The quote needs to match who bears the loss, the shipment route and storage stops. [Read the national Cargo and transit guide](/coverage/cargo-transit).

## Nevada Requirements

| Requirement | Details |
| --- | --- |
| Notice for regulated household-goods service | Before service, the carrier must give written notice of standard-liability scope and availability of additional coverage.[^1] |
| Lost/damaged freight claim deadline | Submit a claim against a common or contract motor carrier within 7 days after discovering loss or damage.[^1] |

## What to Watch for in Nevada

### Do Not Apply One Cargo Limit to Every Carrier

NAC 706.191 lists $15,000 per vehicle and $30,000 per event/place for common or contract property carriers other than fully regulated carriers; fully regulated household-goods carriers have separate rules. Ask whether the carrier’s NTA authority is fully regulated before using that table to evaluate cargo protection.[^1][^2]

### Get the Liability Notice Before Service

For service regulated by the Nevada Transportation Authority, a household-goods carrier must tell you in writing what its standard liability covers and whether extra coverage is available. Compare that notice with the actual shipment value and ask how additional coverage is documented.[^1]

### Calendar the Seven-Day Claim Window

A shipper’s claim against a common or contract carrier for lost or damaged freight or baggage is due within seven days after discovery; the carrier then has 14 days to pay or deny in writing. Record discovery promptly and use the carrier’s written process.[^1]

### Separate a COD Bond From Cargo Insurance

Nevada’s bond for certain intrastate carriers collecting a shipper’s sale price on delivery protects against mishandling the money collected, not physical loss or damage to cargo. If your deal uses collect-on-delivery, ask separately for the cargo policy and settlement terms.[^2]

## Who Regulates Insurance in Nevada

**Nevada Division of Insurance.** The Nevada Division of Insurance regulates insurers and producers and provides a license verification tool for agents, agencies and companies. Its Consumer Services unit accepts insurance complaints and questions.[^3][^4][^5]

### Surplus-Lines Tax and Stamping Office

**Reported tax rate:** Same tax rate as admitted coverage of the same kind; an approved filing fee may also apply When Nevada is the insured’s home state, Nevada taxes surplus-lines coverage at the rate imposed on similar admitted coverage and adds any approved filing fee; the rate therefore depends on the line and applicable fee approval. Nevada law requires a diligent effort to place coverage with authorized insurers except where the statutory exempt-commercial-purchaser conditions apply, and the policy must warn that the Nevada Insurance Guaranty Association will not cover the contract.[^6][^7][^8][^9]

## Providers With Documented State Licenses

These providers publish a national listing for Cargo and transit; the state records document licenses for the entities and roles shown below. Some records rely on company-reported information rather than independent regulator verification. A national listing does not confirm that the product is available in Nevada; [check the regulator’s license lookup](https://doi.nv.gov/licensing-search/) and confirm state availability for your business when requesting a quote.

- [Corgi](/insurance-providers/corgi) — **Entity:** Corgi Insurance Services, Inc.; **role:** Insurance producer; **checked:** 2026-09-28. **Scope:** Corgi’s company producer-license table lists 50 jurisdictions: 49 states and the District of Columbia, including DC license 3003091619. New Mexico does not appear in the table and is not included here; the omission does not establish that Corgi is unlicensed there. The company-reported table has no stated as-of date and does not establish product availability.[^12]

## Questions to Ask Before You Buy in Nevada

1. Is this carrier fully regulated by NTA, and which cargo-insurance schedule applies to that authority?
2. Can I have the required written description of standard liability and additional coverage before pickup?
3. If goods are lost or damaged, which address accepts a claim and what date starts the seven-day deadline?
4. Does the transaction include collect-on-delivery proceeds, and what separate bond protects those funds?

## Cargo And Transit in Nevada: FAQ

### How long do I have to submit a Nevada carrier cargo claim?

NAC 706.333 gives a shipper or consignor seven days after discovering lost or damaged freight or baggage to submit a claim against a common or contract motor carrier. The carrier then has 14 days to pay or send a written denial.[^1]

### Must a Nevada household-goods carrier explain its standard liability?

Yes, before NTA-regulated service it must give written notice of the scope of standard liability and whether additional coverage is available. Ask for that notice before you sign or load.[^1]
