# Cargo Insurance in Georgia

For an intrastate Georgia household move, the mover’s cargo filing is a carrier-side requirement with stated per-vehicle and at-one-time/place amounts; it is not a measure of your full goods value. If a move claim is unresolved, Georgia’s consumer guide says submit a written claim to the carrier within 90 days, with DPS complaint assistance limited by the origin and destination.[^1][^2]

**Coverage:** [Cargo and transit](/coverage/cargo-transit) · [Georgia](/coverage/states/georgia)

## What Is Cargo And Transit?

Cargo coverage fits a shipper protecting goods it owns or a carrier responsible for another party’s goods. The quote needs to match who bears the loss, the shipment route and storage stops. [Read the national Cargo and transit guide](/coverage/cargo-transit).

## Georgia Requirements

| Requirement | Details |
| --- | --- |
| Intrastate motor-carrier cargo filing | For carriers covered by GAC 570-38-2, cargo defaults to $25,000 per motor vehicle and $50,000 for aggregate cargo loss or damage at one time and place only when another amount is not established elsewhere in Chapter 570-38.[^1] |

## What to Watch for in Georgia

### Separate Carrier Filing From Goods Value

Georgia’s rule treats Form H as evidence of a carrier’s cargo insurance and sets filing amounts for carriers under the covered subchapter. Compare the shipment’s declared value and any carrier recovery cap with your own cargo-policy quote; the filing amounts do not state the value of your goods.[^1]

### Put an Intrastate Move Claim in Writing

For a move within Georgia, the Attorney General says you must first send the carrier a written claim within 90 days; the carrier then has 90 days to resolve it. Ask the mover how to document condition and delivery date before your shipment leaves.[^2]

### Check Whether DPS Can Assist

Georgia DPS assistance is unavailable when both endpoints are within the same incorporated municipality, or when either endpoint is outside Georgia. If your route falls in either exception, keep the carrier claim record and identify the separate dispute route before loading.[^2]

### Match the Carrier Named on Form H

Georgia accepts Form H as a presumed-compliant cargo certificate only when required fields, including the carrier’s current business name, physical address, policy number and countersignature, are present. Ask which legal carrier will take custody and ensure the shipment paperwork names that same entity.[^1]

## Who Regulates Insurance in Georgia

**Georgia Office of Commissioner of Insurance and Safety Fire.** Georgia’s elected Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner licenses and regulates insurance companies and insurance professionals, investigates insurance fraud, and oversees consumer complaint services. The Office’s state license lookup covers agents, agencies, and companies.[^3][^4][^5]

### Surplus-Lines Tax and Stamping Office

**Reported tax rate:** 4% of total premium when Georgia is the home state Georgia charges 4% on the total premium written and received by a surplus-lines broker when Georgia is the insured’s home state. Current fee treatment is not described here because the Department’s latest fee bulletin could not be retrieved as readable text; ask your broker for the policy-declaration and tax breakdown. This record does not state a Georgia-specific guaranty-fund conclusion.[^6]

## Providers With Documented State Licenses

These providers publish a national listing for Cargo and transit; the state records document licenses for the entities and roles shown below. Some records rely on company-reported information rather than independent regulator verification. A national listing does not confirm that the product is available in Georgia; [check the regulator’s license lookup](https://oci.georgia.gov/agents-agency-licensing) and confirm state availability for your business when requesting a quote.

- [Corgi](/insurance-providers/corgi) — **Entity:** Corgi Insurance Services, Inc.; **role:** Insurance producer; **checked:** 2026-09-28. **Scope:** Corgi’s company producer-license table lists 50 jurisdictions: 49 states and the District of Columbia, including DC license 3003091619. New Mexico does not appear in the table and is not included here; the omission does not establish that Corgi is unlicensed there. The company-reported table has no stated as-of date and does not establish product availability.[^9]

## Questions to Ask Before You Buy in Georgia

1. Is this shipment wholly intrastate, and does the mover’s Georgia authority make Rule 570-38-2 apply?
2. What declared value and carrier liability terms will appear on my bill of lading, and how do they compare with the goods value I want to protect?
3. What written claim address and delivery-date record should I use to meet Georgia’s 90-day claim process?

## Cargo And Transit in Georgia: FAQ

### Does Georgia’s mover cargo filing insure my household goods for their full value?

No. The Georgia rule sets cargo-insurance filing amounts for covered carriers, not the value of your shipment or the recovery promised by your own policy. Review the carrier’s bill of lading and ask a broker to quote the value you want insured.[^1]

### How long do I have to make a claim after a move within Georgia?

Georgia’s Attorney General says to submit a written claim to the carrier within 90 days; the carrier then has 90 days to resolve it. DPS assistance has geographic exceptions, including same-municipality moves and moves with an out-of-state endpoint.[^2]
