# AIG vs Cowbell

Cowbell publishes named cyber and technology programs with product-specific insurers and security services; AIG publishes a broader insurer-group portfolio.

## Before You Quote

Ask each provider about eligibility, the issuing insurer, policy wording, limits, retentions, exclusions and costs for your business.

## Highlights

Cowbell’s Prime programs distinguish revenue bands, admitted or surplus placement, cyber-only and combined Tech E&O/cyber options. AIG’s CyberEdge products and other commercial lines sit within a broader insurer group; the product name alone does not identify the policy issuer or terms. ### AIG

Role: Insurance carrier.

Carrier & MGA Spot Score: **No Spot Score**. Assessed 2026-09-29; review due 2026-10-29. Excluded factors: Financial Resilience (The supplied evidence did not support a score for Financial Resilience; this factor is excluded, not scored as zero. Canonical evidence gaps: AIG’s complete U.S.-domiciled P&C company list and broad license/eligibility jurisdictions are transcribed from its own notice and treated as trustworthy company-reported evidence. Product-specific insurer assignments remain unknown because the notice itself makes no such assignment.; No specific policy-to-issuing-company mapping; AIG's published U.S.-domiciled P&C company list is fully transcribed, but its notice disclaims policy-specific issuer inference.; No individual statutory capital, surplus, results or financial strength rating for each named operating insurer was assessed; available AIG figures are group aggregate and AM Best coverage is a rating unit.; No complete current reinsurance treaty schedule, capacity panel, terms, collateral, renewal history or mapping from any program to its issuer and reinsurers. Named NICO/Fortitude arrangements are legacy or run-off scope.; Claims responsibility, delegated administrators, entity-specific oversight, service standards, complaint escalation and claims performance remain unverified by issuing company and program.; The 2025 Missouri action against National Union is verified as listed but inaccessible in the scanned linked PDF; the matter and outcome are unknown.; Regulatory conduct review was scoped to the New York DFS enforcement index and Missouri DOI records for selected named entities; it was not a search of every state regulator, federal court, or all regulator datasets. ### Cowbell

Role: Managing general agent.

Carrier & MGA Spot Score: **6.3/10** (partial score; 25% of this role's weighting included). Assessed 2026-09-23; review due 2026-10-23. Excluded factors: Identity and Authority (Current authority and applicable appointments or delegations have not been independently established across the assessed scope.); Financial Resilience (Cowbell Insurance Agency LLC’s own operating finances are not in the reviewed material. AM Best’s A (Excellent) rating of Palomar Specialty Insurance Company and Palomar Holdings’ group filing describe the carrier behind the Palomar-paper products, not Cowbell’s ability to sustain its own operations, so they are not scored as Cowbell’s financial resilience.); Claims and Servicing (The evidence does not sufficiently establish responsibility, access and escalation across the assessed services.); Regulatory Conduct (A complete, exact-entity regulatory-conduct review for the preceding five years is unavailable.).

## AIG Reviews

Review Score: 4.4 / 10 from 2 rated sources, equally weighted.

Customer ratings for AIG are low: Trustpilot shows 1.9 out of 5 from 252 reviews, and NerdWallet gives 2.5 stars and notes more claims complaints than expected. These pages cover many AIG products and countries, so they only loosely describe business insurance.

- NerdWallet: NerdWallet editorial rating 2.5 (stars). NerdWallet’s editorial business-insurance comparison; the AIG entry concerns commercial liability and property insurance, not a quantified policyholder-review sample. The page’s complaint statement and 2.5-star editorial rating are source-specific and must not be recast as a consumer average. Checked 2026-09-29. - Trustpilot: Trustpilot TrustScore 1.9 (out of 5); 252 reviews. Consumer reviews on aig.com’s Trustpilot profile span products and countries, including personal, travel, device/service and other experiences; they do not isolate U.S. commercial-P&C policyholders or a single issuing insurer. Cowbell has one public rating we could find: 1.0 out of 5 on SourceForge from three reviews in 2023. That's too few and too old to say much.

- SourceForge: SourceForge rating 1.0 (out of 5); 3 reviews. SourceForge software directory listing for Cowbell Cyber. Three small-business reviewers describe the cyber insurance product. ## Introduction

For cyber or technology E&O, Cowbell publishes separate Prime program designs and product-level insurer information; those distinctions can affect eligibility, paper and limits. AIG publishes a CyberEdge family within a much broader commercial portfolio, but the legal insurer and policy form still depend on the quote. Compare one specific Cowbell program with one specific AIG product rather than comparing brand names. ## Optional Spot Service Handoff

Spot can help prepare applications, coordinate brokers, and compare proposals. If that work is needed, collect the company's task, known deadline, current broker, and open questions for a [free consultation](https://spot.insure/pricing.md). The company decides what to buy; Spot does not automatically bind coverage.

## Key Differences Between AIG vs Cowbell

### Product and issuing insurer

“AIG” is the marketing name for American International Group, Inc.'s worldwide operations. AIG says insurance products are written or provided by subsidiaries or affiliates; its U.S. legal notice lists multiple U.S.-domiciled property and casualty insurers but does not identify which company would issue a particular commercial policy. [1](https://www.aig.com/investor-relations "Investor Relations") [2](https://www.aig.com/legal-notice "Additional Legal Notices") (Evidence: Company-reported; scope: AIG group naming and the listed U.S.-domiciled property and casualty companies. The legal notice is not a policy-specific carrier assignment or complete ownership chart.; verified: 2026-09-28.)

Your policy’s named insurer remains responsible for coverage; Cowbell is an insurance platform and agency that may act as a general agent. Cowbell Insurance Agency LLC identifies itself as a US P&C producer. [16](https://cowbell.insure/ "Cowbell") [20](https://cowbell.insure/state-licenses/ "License Information") [17](https://cowbell.insure/terms/ "Terms And Conditions") (Evidence: Company-reported; scope: Cowbell's current U.S. website and producer disclosure; the exact role can vary by product and placement.; verified: 2026-09-15.)

AIG says its insurance policies are written or provided by subsidiaries or affiliates and lists multiple U.S. property-and-casualty insurers. Cowbell describes cyber and technology programs administered through an agency structure, while product materials identify different insurers across Prime offerings. The Prime Tech brochure covers combined technology E&O and cyber; other Prime programs are not interchangeable. Ask for the issuing company and exact edition for both quotes. [1](https://www.aig.com/investor-relations "Investor Relations") [2](https://www.aig.com/legal-notice "Additional Legal Notices") [17](https://cowbell.insure/terms/ "Terms And Conditions") [31](https://cowbell.insure/wp-content/uploads/pdfs/CB-US-PrimeTech-Overview-1.pdf "Prime Tech Product Overview") [26](https://cowbell.insure/wp-content/uploads/pdfs/CB-Prime100-Overview.pdf "Prime 100 Product Overview")

### Fit and application route

AIG’s Surplus Lines section says its commercial insurance solutions serve small, middle-market, and large enterprises. The same section separately describes Lexington Casualty as an experienced excess-and-surplus-lines casualty provider; it does not explicitly assign all three customer-size segments to Lexington Casualty. [3](https://www.aig.com/home/risk-solutions/business "Business") (Evidence: Company-reported; scope: AIG’s published Surplus Lines section; customer-size statement and Lexington Casualty description are adjacent but not explicitly attributed to the same business. This does not establish a provider-wide customer focus or product-specific issuer.; verified: 2026-09-28.)

Small and midsize businesses can compare Cowbell cyber options, while middle-market firms can consider broader programs; Prime 100 targets up to $100 million revenue and Prime 250/Tech up to $1 billion. [25](https://cowbell.insure/wp-content/uploads/pdfs/CB-CowbellOverview.pdf "Cowbell Overview") [26](https://cowbell.insure/wp-content/uploads/pdfs/CB-Prime100-Overview.pdf "Prime 100 Product Overview") [27](https://cowbell.insure/wp-content/uploads/pdfs/CB-Prime100Pro-Overview.pdf "Prime 100 Pro Product Overview") [28](https://cowbell.insure/wp-content/uploads/pdfs/CB-Prime250-Overview.pdf "Prime 250 Product Overview") [31](https://cowbell.insure/wp-content/uploads/pdfs/CB-US-PrimeTech-Overview-1.pdf "Prime Tech Product Overview") (Evidence: Company-reported; scope: Published U.S. product appetites; eligibility is subject to underwriting and product-specific class restrictions.; verified: 2026-09-15.)

Cowbell directs buyers to appointed agents and brokers, and its product materials distinguish target size and eligibility by program. AIG’s Surplus Lines section says its commercial solutions serve small through large enterprises, but that size statement does not assign a product or underwriting appetite to your risk. Give each broker the same revenue, security, operations and contract information and ask which current form and market would actually quote it. [23](https://cowbell.insure/find-an-agent/ "Find An Agent") [26](https://cowbell.insure/wp-content/uploads/pdfs/CB-Prime100-Overview.pdf "Prime 100 Product Overview") [3](https://www.aig.com/home/risk-solutions/business "Business")

### Risk services and claims

AIG lists its North America broker portal as a place for brokers and agents to access loss runs, policy documents, applications, and tools. The page does not explain how renewals are managed or promise renewal terms or timing. [4](https://www.aig.com/login "AIG Login") (Evidence: Company-reported; scope: Public description of a North America broker/agent portal; authenticated functions and account-specific availability were not reviewed.; verified: 2026-09-28.)

Cowbell pairs cyber coverage with risk ratings, policyholder insights, security connectors, training and resiliency support; included access may be limited or trial-based, while some services require a subscription. [37](https://cowbell.insure/crs/ "Cowbell Resiliency Services") [26](https://cowbell.insure/wp-content/uploads/pdfs/CB-Prime100-Overview.pdf "Prime 100 Product Overview") [30](https://cowbell.insure/wp-content/uploads/pdfs/CB-PrimePlus-Overview.pdf "Prime Plus Product Overview") (Evidence: Company-reported; scope: Current U.S. resiliency-services catalogue and cyber product overviews. Eligibility, third-party terms and whether a service is bundled depend on the policy and service agreement.; verified: 2026-09-15.)

Cowbell describes incident-response and risk services, with some policyholder services distinct from paid subscriptions; its claims assistance is not a promise of coverage or payment. AIG also describes online reporting and tracking for selected property and casualty claims, with options varying by line and country. Compare the incident hotline, notice deadline, included response services and policy language—not just the pre-loss security features. [37](https://cowbell.insure/crs/ "Cowbell Resiliency Services") [36](https://cowbell.insure/claims-services/ "Claims And Incident Response Services") [5](https://www.aig.com/business/business-claims/intellirisk-services "IntelliRisk")

[3](https://www.aig.com/home/risk-solutions/business "Business") (Evidence: Company-reported; scope: AIG’s published Surplus Lines section; customer-size statement and Lexington Casualty description are adjacent but not explicitly attributed to the same business. | Application process | AIG lists a North America myAIG portal for brokers and agents to access loss runs, policy documents, applications, and tools, and a separate U.S. portal for producer appointment requests. The public pages do not establish that a business can complete an online purchase or bind coverage directly. | Servicing and renewals | AIG lists its North America broker portal as a place for brokers and agents to access loss runs, policy documents, applications, and tools. This does not describe every commercial line, claim outcome, or policy obligation.; verified: 2026-09-28.) | Cowbell says its in-house cyber claims team and response panel are available 24/7; have your policy number, incident date, details and contact ready. The issuing insurer and policy determine coverage and payment.
