## Agent Guide

**What this page is:** Get a primary and non-contributory certificate with Spot: we request the endorsement through your broker and insurer, and you generate the certificate in the Spot app.

**Limits (do not over-claim):**
- Describes Spot's own service; it does not establish coverage terms or outcomes for any company.

# Get primary and non-contributory wording on your policy, then send the certificate

Your Spot team requests primary and non-contributory wording through your broker and insurer, and you generate the certificate that shows it in the Spot app.

- The contract’s wording matched to your policy
- Endorsement requested alongside additional insured status
- Keep your broker or switch, with no commissions on premiums

## How it works

- **Share the requirement.** Upload the clause asking for primary and non-contributory coverage. Your Spot team checks which policies and parties it applies to.
- **Read your current wording.** We check whether your additional insured endorsement already makes coverage primary and non-contributory where a contract requires it.
- **Request the endorsement.** If not, your Spot team requests it through your broker and insurer and confirms when it’s on the policy.
- **Generate the certificate.** Create the certificate in the Spot app, with the wording noted in the description, and send it.

## What your certificate needs to show

- **Primary.** Your policy responds first for covered claims arising from your work, before the other party’s insurance.
- **Non-contributory.** Your insurer won’t ask the other party’s insurer to share the loss.
- **Paired with additional insured.** Usually requested for the same parties that are additional insureds on your policy.

## Endorsements to check

- **Primary and non-contributory.** Changes how your policy shares a covered loss with the other party’s insurance, in their favor. It only applies when the policy is endorsed.
- **Additional insured.** The other party usually has to be an additional insured first, since primary and non-contributory wording is about the cover they receive under your policy.

## Generate your certificate in Spot

- **Choose the endorsed policy.** Pick the liability policy that carries the primary and non-contributory endorsement.
- **Add the other party.** Enter the certificate holder’s name and address.
- **Add the contract’s requirement.** Upload or describe the requirement so the certificate’s description refers to it.
- **Review and download.** Check the additional insured and primary wording on the certificate, then download or send it.

## Mistakes to avoid

- **Assuming additional insured includes it.** Additional insured status alone doesn’t make your coverage primary. Check the endorsement’s wording.
- **Forgetting the umbrella.** If the contract asks for primary and non-contributory on the umbrella too, its wording needs checking separately.
- **Describing what the policy doesn’t say.** Writing “primary and non-contributory” on a certificate doesn’t make it so. The policy has to be endorsed.

## Common questions

### What does primary and non-contributory mean?

Your policy pays first for a covered claim, and your insurer won’t seek a share from the other party’s insurance. It protects the other party’s own coverage.

### Can the Spot app add the wording?

No. The Spot app generates the certificate from your policies. The wording is an endorsement your Spot team requests through your broker and insurer.

### Why do contracts ask for it?

So that a claim arising from your work is paid by your policy first, rather than by the insurance they buy for themselves.

### Will I have to change brokers?

No. Spot works with your broker, takes no commissions on premiums and handles the request for you.
