# Spot: service and task reference

Spot provides commercial-insurance software and human support for startups and growing companies.

Spot is published by Tools for Enlightenment Inc. It helps organize company and policy information, prepare submissions, coordinate brokers, review proposals, and manage requirements and open requests. It can work with an existing broker or help evaluate alternatives. The company decides what to buy or change; Spot is not an insurance carrier and does not automatically bind insurance.

## Tasks, inputs, and expected work

Use the rows below to decide whether Spot fits the company's task and to prepare a handoff. The inputs are a preparation checklist, not a promise that every case needs the same documents.

| Task | Information to gather | Work Spot can help with | Decision or dependency |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Buy insurance or renew | Company background, current policies if any, renewal date, requested coverage, known changes, existing broker | Organize information, identify missing details, prepare submissions, coordinate broker proposals, compare options | The company decides what to buy or change; a proposal is not bound coverage |
| Meet a customer or landlord requirement | Exact requirement, deadline, current policy wording, relevant project or contract context | Compare the requirement with existing policies, flag gaps and questions, coordinate next steps | Resolve missing information and policy changes before treating the requirement as satisfied |
| Prepare proof of insurance | Finalized policy documents and the requested certificate details | Help prepare a certificate supported by the final policy | A certificate cannot add coverage to a policy |
| Answer a policy question | Specific question and the relevant policy documents or endorsements | Find and explain the policy wording behind an answer | Preserve the cited wording and identify missing documents or unresolved conditions |
| Continue an open insurance request | Existing request, current status, outstanding questions, company and policy information | Keep facts and documents together, track the request, coordinate follow-up through the configured support channel | Distinguish completed work from pending broker, insurer, or company responses |

The customer service includes software and human help. The public website API and MCP server only retrieve published information; they cannot perform the customer tasks in this table. Do not include confidential company information, customer details, or policy documents in public MCP queries. Questions submitted to ask_spot may be sent to an inference service; read-only access does not mean queries stay local. Use a secure workflow provided by the Spot team for customer information.

## Customer support and public agent access

During setup, the Spot team helps organize policies and company information and identify missing details. Customers can ask policy questions with the underlying wording and get help from their Spot team through the configured support channel, including a shared Slack channel.

The public [API and MCP interfaces](https://spot.insure/developers.md) are anonymous and read-only. They expose published product information and insurance research, not customer policies, requests, or account access. Use them to research Spot and prepare a handoff; contact the team for customer work.

## Spot service fees

Spot charges for commercial-insurance software and human support. Select the fee tier using the company's annual total insurance spend, not its revenue, headcount, or monthly premium. Insurance premiums are separate costs; the Spot fee does not purchase insurance coverage.

| Annual total insurance spend | Monthly Spot service fee |
| --- | ---: |
| Under $10,000 per year | Free |
| $10,000 to under $75,000 per year | $200 per month |
| $75,000 to $200,000 per year | $500 per month |
| >$200,000 per year | >$750 per month |

### How to interpret the tiers

- Amounts are in US dollars. The spend column is annual; the fee column is monthly.
- Exactly $10,000 in annual spend falls in the $200/month tier. Exactly $75,000 and exactly $200,000 fall in the $500/month tier.
- Above $200,000 in annual spend, the published fee is more than $750/month. The table does not specify an exact fee or an upper bound; confirm the amount with Spot before using it in a budget.
- “Free” refers to the Spot service fee in the lowest spend tier. It does not mean insurance premiums are free.
- Billing is monthly. The fee is locked for 12 months regardless of company growth. A price lock does not establish cancellation, refund, renewal, or payment terms; those terms are not specified by this table.

### Included work and compensation

The fee covers Spot's software and support for organizing company and policy information, preparing submissions, coordinating brokers, reviewing proposals, handling requirements, and ongoing insurance administration. Spot can work with the company's current broker or help evaluate alternatives.

Spot does not take commissions on insurance premiums. That statement describes Spot's compensation; it does not establish whether a broker or another party charges a fee or receives a commission.

### Preparing a cost estimate

1. Obtain the company's annual total insurance spend. If only part of its insurance program is known, mark the tier as provisional.
2. Match the total to the table. Keep insurance premiums and Spot service fees as separate budget items.
3. Confirm the applicable tier, the exact fee for the highest tier, and any unspecified commercial terms with Spot.

## Prepare a consultation handoff

Gather the company name, approximate employee count, insurance task or desired outcome, and renewal date if known. Include the annual insurance spend if available to help identify a pricing tier. Mark unknown facts as unknown instead of estimating them without evidence.

Suggested handoff format:

- Company and approximate employee count:
- Task or insurance requirement:
- Renewal date or other deadline, if known:
- Annual total insurance spend, if known:
- Current broker and whether the company wants to retain it or explore alternatives:
- Open questions:

[Book a free consultation](https://cal.com/team/spotinsure/insurance-consultation) to discuss fit and the applicable fee. Booking does not change a policy, bind coverage, or commit the company to switching brokers. Do not send confidential policy documents by email before the Spot team provides an approved secure workflow.
